Admiral, Where You Can

We’re consistently recognised as a Great Place to Work, and we’re incredibly proud to know that our people love working here, but why is this?

Well, we believe it comes down to our colleagues feeling like Admiral is a place Where You Can.

Where You Can Be You.

Where You Can Grow & Progress.

Where You Can Make A Difference.

Where You Can Share In Our Future.

There’s no one destination for working at Admiral. We’re all different, with different talents, skills, goals, and paths we might want to travel. That could be achieving work-life balance, learning new skills, settling into a fulfilling role, or so much more.

And who better to demonstrate this than our very own colleagues who experience our Where You Can promise every day at work?

Be You - Eve, seven years at Admiral

“When I first joined Admiral, it was clear I had found a place where I could be myself. To Be You means you can be yourself, whatever that looks like. For me that’s not something that has always come naturally. Well, what do I know? I’m gender Queer. I’m a lesbian. I’m a woman. My lived experiences can often vary considerably to others. I was initially attracted to Admiral because of our LGBTQ+ community. For the first time in my career, I had joined a business where I was speaking to people who I could relate to. I could feel myself relax within the workplace and I felt safety in expression. This is what ‘Be You’ is all about. All down to key individuals paving the way for fairness and inclusivity. It’s been many years since I first joined the Employee Groups in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and I’m pleased to say that now this is my career as Diversity and Inclusion Lead.”

Grow & Progress - Shweta, five years at Admiral

“Fresh out of uni in 2018, I joined Admiral as a Claims Handler. It was a fantastic experience and taught me a lot, but tech had always been my passion. I saw an advert on our intranet for an internal Tech Training Scheme. It was the perfect chance to merge my business knowledge with my love for tech, so I went for it, and the talent team helped me along the way. Admiral fully supported me throughout the programme, which included boot camp style coding training as well as self-taught learning. From never having written a line of code, a year later, I was a Software Engineer, building a new version of the claims system I once used! The training scheme has inspired me to take on a part time Masters in Computer Science and really spring boarded my career in Tech. Now as a Chapter Lead, I have the chance to mentor and coach new Engineers, attend conferences and be involved in central decisions to help fellow engineers across IT.”

Make A Difference - Leanne, 18 years at Admiral

“Thanks to the special leave and Impact Hours granted by Admiral, I've been able to train as a full time Coastguard Rescue Officer. This training involved learning new skills in technical water rescues, advanced casualty medical aid, missing or lost person searches, and helicopter rescue operations. I’m ex-military and ex-police and have always wanted to continue to contribute in some way.  I’m able to be on call 24/7 for 999 emergencies, especially crucial as I live on the coast, though thankfully this hasn’t happened often. Admiral’s flexibility has been remarkable. The opportunity to work alongside the police, fire, and ambulance services, and to contribute to saving lives, resonates deeply within my values. Admiral doesn't just support me as a colleague. Here, I’m empowered to Make A Difference in my community, beyond the office walls.”

Share In Our Future - Andy, 14 years at Admiral

“When I joined Admiral, I was 22 years old with zero savings and a £1,600 overdraft that I simply couldn’t shift. I hadn’t given much thought to the share scheme as I wasn’t really thinking long term back then. Fast forward a few years and I sold my first set of SIP shares. Suddenly I was debt free, after years of getting nowhere! That was a real lightbulb moment for me. Admiral’s commitment to allowing us all to Share In Our Future has essentially provided the backbone of my life. These shares have paid for a car deposit, a house deposit, my wedding venue, and even a little sausage dog. It’s this positive impact that has led me to become Group Share Plans Manager, as I can’t think of anything better than being involved in such a positive element of work. When I speak to people around the company, I know my story isn’t unique, and it makes me proud to work for a company whereby when Admiral wins, we win.”

So, whether you’ve been here for years or you’ve just arrived, a brilliant, personal, flexible path at Admiral is yours for the making. We enable and empower our people to discover meaningful ambitions, and support you on your journey to make them a reality.

Our commitment to our people is the key to our track record, and the exciting future ahead of us. And we’re going to show it every step of the way.

Because this is Admiral.

This is Where You Can.
